howtostopthinking:

After the ego is dissolved, day-to-day trivia becomes just that: trivial. The people of the world walk and talk in automation, programmed by past experience, victim to culture and influenced by books, peers, tutors, and the media. They’re like little autobots running a flawed, self-destructive program. We have one chance at life as a human and we spend it in fast food joints, in office jobs and on Facebook partaking in pointless chit-chat that’s so layered the significance behind it dissolves. It’s all getting on my nerves. Our normalisation of these abnormalities is driving me mad.

But we’re better than this… right? We’re past this… right? We’re gods, not little pawns in a game of chess to be sacrificed solely for the profit of the players. Yet, I still see suits walking around. I still see social workers plucking children out of the hands of washed up drug addicts who lost at the game called ‘life’. I still see homeless people on the streets holding out hats and cups, begging for coins we’ve been taught never to spare.

We’re amazing. Human consciousness is amazing – a miracle, even. But I still find myself analysing my peers as if they were primates showing off their rock collections and hunting abilities to each other.

We have the resources to create a human paradise… so what the fuck is going on? People don’t even acknowledge each other on the street — why? Is it because of fear? Fear programmed into us, fear caused by reptilian survival instincts that reside in the lowest and most primitive layers of our brain. This ‘fear’ is exploited by those in power. This ‘fear’ is the reason we don’t communicate, learn and grow.
